Twenty North American ringers gathered in Pittsburgh the weekend of 2-4 June to attempt some quarter peals. In the end 21 were rung, 13 in tower and 8 in hand. A wide variety of methods were rung, all but one of those in tower being of surprise, as well as four quarters of spliced surprise major, in up to fifteen methods.

Taking part were ringers from Birmingham, Boston, Dallas, Kalamazoo, Minneapolis-St Paul, Pittsburgh, Toronto and Washington: Rob Bannister, Tim Barnes, Mary Bragdon, Ted Clark, Kris Fowler, Rob Gibson, Elaine Hansen, Britt Hartenberger, Mike Hinton, Margaret Miller, Mererdith Morris, Don Morrison, Cally Perry, Linda Rankin, Cecily Rock, Quilla Roth, John Schreiner, Mike Schulte, Beth Sinclair and Lian von Wantoch. David Hawkins, from Toronto, was also supposed to join us, and we were all disappointed when he was indisposed and had to withdraw a few days before.

Lots was accomplished over the weekend, with many folks getting to learn and ring new things, and even the failed attempts provided much valuable practice.

Saturday night we all gathered, together with four other local ringers, in a private room at a local pizza and beer emporium with an admirable selection of the latter to recover our energies prior to one last, busy day of ringing on Sunday.
