February 12, 2011

The NAGCR Mid-Atlantic Meeting will take place THIS SATURDAY FEB. 12

in Washington, D.C. The normal schedule is in affect:

10:00-12:00 Ringing at the Old Post Office Tower

12:00-2:00 Lunch at Washington National Cathedral

2:00-4:00 Ringing at the Cathedral

WRS will supply lunch but PLEASE RSVP by THURSDAY Feb. 10 and let us know if you are coming and if any others are coming with you so that we can calculate the appropriate amount of food.

OPOT - Parking at the Old Post Office Tower is limited to street parking for which there is usually a fee. Regardless of the old signs which allowed free parking on Saturday, there is now a central parking meter which requires fees on Saturday from 7 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. with two-hour limit. The charge is $2 per hour. Payment is either by coin or card. Put the receipt in the front window. It is possible that the fees have been rescinded on Saturday, but just be prepared.

There is FREE three-hour parking on the mall starting at 10:00 a.m.

Metro is another option. Some outlying stops have free parking on the weekend. The blue line stop, “Federal Triangle” is opposite OPOT. To get from OPOT to the cathedral. it will be faster if you can get a ride with someone, otherwise the directions are on the WRS website at:

CATHEDRAL: There is free parking on the cathedral grounds. The cathedral parking garage charges an $8 flat rate on Saturdays. Take a ticket when you enter the garage, and pay at

a kiosk before you leave.

OPOT: Meet at the base of the glass elevator if possible and go up with the group. If you come after that, there should be a WRS member with a key or a Park Service employee at the door. Identify yourself as a ringer and they should let you in. If they do not or there is no one there, please share cell phone numbers. When we know who will be running ringing at OPOT, I will check to see if they have a cell phone and pass along that information if applicable.

Please use the South elevator in case there is a meeting in the auditorium. If you are not with a WRS group and the gate is not open, please call the ringing chamber at 202.537.8986 If you do not have a cell phone, the security office on level B1 of the parking garage will be happy to call for you.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Looking forward to seeing everyone this Saturday.
